What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a replacement tooth root made of ceramic or titanium. It’s placed into your jaw, where your jawbone fuses with it. After your jaw heals from the implantation surgery, the dentist attaches a crown, a bridge, or dentures with multiple teeth to the implant. In short, dental implant placements give you one or more artificial teeth that look and act just like natural teeth.
The Dental Implant Process
Richard L. Myers and his staff can take care of your implant from start to finish. We don’t need to send you to an oral surgeon to have the implant placed.
If you choose to get a dental implant, here is the process:
- We remove the original tooth, if necessary.
- We place the implant into your jawbone.
- We let the area heal for three to six months. During this time, your jawbone fuses to the implant through a process called osseointegration.
- We attach a connecting piece, called an abutment, to the implant.
- We attach the crown, bridge, or dentures to the abutment.
To make sure you don’t experience discomfort during the procedure, we offer several sedation options. We offer a computerized anesthetic machine, nitrous gas, or oral sedation.
