Dental Crown Services in Boulder, CO
Crowns, also known as caps, restore a tooth to its normal shape and size. Crowns usually are recommended when a tooth has fractures and extensive decay. Crowns also can be used to correct the aesthetics of teeth as well as bite related issues.
Crowns are a two-step process.
The first visit the tooth is prepared, where Dr. Myers removes all the decay, old filling, and fractures of the tooth. An impression of the tooth is taken to be sent to a dental lab where the crown will be fabricated. A provisional crown, made of an acrylic material, will be placed on the tooth while the dental lab makes the new crown.
The second visit is to permanently seat the crown. Some adjustments may be needed, but this appointment is quick and painless.
Porcelain is fused to a metal underneath. These crowns have a tooth colored look, but have the strength to withstand the biting forces of molar teeth.
All porcelain crowns with no metal underneath. We generally recommend placing these crowns in your "smile line" since they are translucent and allow a more natural tooth look.
Full Gold Crown:
Full gold crown is made up entirely of a cast alloy material (including but not limited to gold, platinum, palladium, silver, copper, and tin). This crown is suggested for your back molars where your bite is the strongest.
